Policies & Procedures
Morning Drop off/Breakfast: All students enter through the Communication Arts Center (CAC). The doors open at 7:15 a.m. each day. Please do not leave your child unattended before this time waiting for the doors to open. All students have the option of eating breakfast in the classroom. A universal breakfast will be served in our classroom from 7:30 – 8:00 a.m. Students will finish eating and clean up breakfast shortly before 8:00 a.m. regardless of arrival time to school.
Absent/Tardy: When your child needs to be absent from school, please send a signed note explaining the reason for the absence. On the day your child returns from an absence I will send home any missed work and students will be given one day to complete the makeup assignments for the missing days. Please be aware that school starts at 7:30 a.m. Students arriving after that time will be marked tardy.
Student Dismissal: Our school day ends at 2:30 p.m. Please let me know in writing (signed paper not, emails will not be accepted) about any special arrangements for dismissal. If you make last minute arrangements for someone unexpected to pick up your child on any given day, please fax the school all necessary information before 11:30 a.m. Disney fax: 773-534-5714.
Lunch/Recess: Our lunch and recess will be 5th period (11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.) When bringing a nutritional lunch from home, please be sure to label lunchboxes with your child’s name and room number (217).
Facilities Schedule:
Monday – Gym
Tuesday – Gym
Wednesday – Science Art
Thursday – Library
Friday – Music
Reading mornings: Please be informed that I expect every student to come to class each day with a chapter book to read. In the mornings, we may have a few moments to independently read; therefore, I feel it is very important for each child to have a good book to pull out. I may call on students to share what they are reading and make predictions during the mornings. This is a great way to get our minds working and also share our thoughts with peers.
Homework folder: During our first week of school we will have a strong focus on getting to know one another, our classroom procedures, homework polices, and expectations. From the beginning of the year we will be using a BLACK homework folder which students will label. This folder will be used ONLY for homework assignments.
Red communication folder: Each student will be given a red folder with their name on it. This folder will be sent home Mondays as a form of communication. This folder will include weekly class newsletters, give you notices about due dates, field trips, and school activities. The homework folder will be our main sources of communication.
Planner: I will ask that each student have an assignment notebook/planner to write down the homework each day. This will be a good organization tool for students to remember to complete all homework.
Classroom Behavior Plans: As we begin a new school year students will have many opportunities to discuss appropriate behavior and expectations for all situations in the school day. During the first week of school I will introduce the 3 R’s. We always want to be Respectful, Responsible & Ready. I will also ask the students to help me brainstorm other rules that they feel are necessary to create a safe, successful and fun learning environment.
